Installation
Information for ceilings
When
installing a bamboo ceiling underneath an existing pergola, it is
very important to plan the installation properly with careful measurements
to avoid mistakes and unnecessary problems. We have found that no
two pergolas are the same. Measurements between beams can sometimes
differ. There are also hidden complications, which create frustrating
problems and can necessitate patch up jobs that will spoil the beautiful
final effect.
The
bamboo creates an attractive finish to an IBR or Chromadek roof,
as it hides the discolouration that builds up over time on top of
the roof. It filters the sun, creating a cooler effect, as well
as resulting in a natural friendly ambience to an entertainment
area.
Choose
the type of bamboo you will use carefully to compliment your existing
colouring and design schemes of your house. The bamboo mozo is available
in the lighter natural yellow colour and a slightly darker 'coffee'
stained brown. The bamboo cane with its thinner poles, which are
more mottled in colour, can also look very attractive for a more
rustic effect. We recommend that you use the mozo 60mm diameter
bamboo poles to attach the bamboo rolls to the batons of the pergola.
The poles can be easily split with a sharp knife into half or quarter
splits. The choice of colour should compliment the existing colour
of the beams and batons, as well as the choice of bamboo fencing.
Our poles are available in natural, green, brown, and black.
| Step
1 |
Spend
time planning your installation with accurate measurements |
| Step
2 |
Cut
your panels to size using a circular saw |
|
Step
3
|
Create
a saddle with rope and wooden batons to support the roll in
the ceiling. This helps you position the bamboo correctly
and it is less awkward and less tiring working above your
head
|
|
Step
4
|
Knock
saddle nails through the bamboo screen into the batons or
beams, to position attach the panels into place. We normally
run the bamboo perpendicular to the wall of the house and
parallel to the corrugation of the IBR or chromadek sheeting
|
| Step
5 |
Predrill
3mm pilot holes into the ½ or ¼ split mozo poles
to prevent splitting |
|
Step
6
|
Using
self tapping wood skrews with large heads attach the mozo
poles to the batons over the bamboo screen. Do not skrew in
too tightly to prevent splitting the poles. The mozo poles
can also be used to hide any ugly cables running in the roof
as they are
hollow

Installation
Information for walls
Ugly boundary
walls can be transformed into natural attractive calming backdrops
with the range of fencing available at Brightfields. Natural screens
can be easily installed to hide ugly pool pumps, washing lines,
dustbins and dead corners. Screening can create private areas
and attractive backdrops to water features or plants.
| Step
1 |
Choose
a fence from the range that will enhance your property |
| Step
2 |
Measure
the area that needs to be covered and select the fence that
is the correct size. The range is available in two heights
ie. 2m and 1,5m. The lengths differ from product to product
and come in two sizes 2m and 3m. |
|
Step
3
|
We
suggest that you first paint your wall so that the show
through is attractive and not the dead grey of the vibracrete.
|
|
Step
4
|
Cut
the CCA treated wooden batons to fit between the upright
posts of the wall. Two batons per panel should suffice.
|
| Step
5 |
Using
8mm anchors attach the metal strapping to the posts and then
to the batons, using serated nails. You will need a masonry
drill to drill into the posts |
|
Step
6
|
Attach
the fencing to the wooden batons with saddle nails
|
| Step
7 |
Cover
the wooden batons with ¼ or ½ split bamboo mozo
poles. This trim finishes off the fence and can create an
attractive contrast to the fence. Remember to predrill the
3mm holes into the mozo poles first before attaching the poles
to the batons with self tapping
skrews with large heads. This prevents the splitting of the
poles. |
Different
effects can be created by mixing and matching the variety of fencing
available. Be adventurous: play with the texture, colour and trim.
When installing a free standing fence, we recommend that you first
sink CCA treated poles as your uprights. Then, attach CCA treated
wooden batons, and follow the same procedure.
